Back when I was a child, I had this dream of becoming a magician in Gloucestershire. Not just any magician, mind you. I was going to the kind that could perform pure miricles, the type that could only be impossible in today’s world.

Not knowing we’re to begin, cereal box magic tricks were the perfect starting place! Do you remember Weetos and Sugar Puffs doing this?

Yeah, they would slip in those mini magic tricks as a marketing stratergy. I know I pestered my mum to buy them, as they were calling my name! Who would have thought, a childs dream would lead to being a professional corproate and wedding magician in Gloucestershire.

Magic does'nt come with an instruction manual, it finds you!

The thing is, being dyslexic as a young child, I could’nt get my head around the instructions, as they had very limited images on how to perform the magic tricks. For me, it was a bit like trying to decode hieroglyphics (you guested correctly, I looked up how to spell that word). But hey, why let that stop me? I soon figured, who needs rules when you have got your imagination?

I would tear into those cereal boxes, just to grab whatever trick was inside. and make up my own routines. I almost felt like the luckyist kid alive, as my two sisters didd’nt have a care for these types of toys back then. Little did I know, this was going to be the foundation for me becoming a professional magician in Gloucestershire later on in my life. It’s funny is’nt it, how life can come back round in full swing!

The challenges and rewards of being the best magician as a child

Picture this: me, standing confidently in front of my elder neighbours (I was’nt cool enuff to do it in front of my mates), from what I can remember, a red backed pack of playing cards and a white and green stripped straw, I swipped from my mum’s top draw as a wond. The cards were everywhere, I had no idea what they were supposed to do., but in my imagination, they were pure magic. I would wave the straw around like I was Merlin the wizard, but just so much cooler, while making up these stories about the queen of hearts being a secret agent.

My parent’s neighbours, bless them. They would sit there, eyes wide, totally convinced – or at least I was that somethig unbelievable happened. I would pull a card from the deck, declare it the “card of adsolute destiny”, and then wave my magical straw over it with all the flair I could muster up, as the greatest magician in Gloucestershire. It was almost part magical feat, part performance. No one knew what was coming next-in reality, I don’t think I did neither!

Looking back, I wasn’t all that bad. Sure the tricks were mad up with a plot I would spend hours on tweaking and refining for hours prior. I did’nt actually follow any real script, but at the time, that’s what made them so fun. Every performance was a suprise. If i messed up those routines, I would just blame it on the magic or cause!
