Firstly, card manipulation is a branch of magic used as the art form called, sleight of hand (which means quick fingered). The common Latin and French synonyms include prestidigitation and legerdemain for a sleight of hand artist. Familiarly, called a magician.
Secondly, sleights or card manipulation are usually performed on stage, in front of an audience. A magician in modern magic, can perform their conjuring skills within a close crowd.
